The wedding speech
and toast - they can be the most dreaded part of the wedding or
the highlight of the event. One of the oldest wedding traditions
still in tact, speeches and toasts are the perfect chance for
the bride and groom to express their appreciation for their parents
and guests, for honor attendants and guests to send hopes and
well-wishes to the happy couple or for family members to reflect
on the essence of love and where it can take you in life. The
best man is typically known as the "toastmaster." In
other words, it is his duty to get things started. After the best
man finishes his sure-to-be-eloquent toast, the maid of honor
has her opportunity to take the podium. After the maid of honor,
the bride and groom usually say their speeches to express deep
sense of appreciation for all who were involved in the preparations.
After the couple submits their speeches, the parents of the bride
and groom respectively offer their words of wisdom and congratulations.
If time allows, the best man can then open the floor to anyone
else who may wish to present a speeches or a toast. More and more
frequently, speech time coincides with the cutting of the cake.
